The Rivers Crew is a 24-member breaking crew from Seoul, South Korea which was founded in 1997. They are the 3 times champion of UK B-Boy Championship in 2002, 2004, and 2005.

Rivers Crew Facts:

Rivers Crew was formed in 1997 and has incorporated other elements of hip-hop in their crew including DJing, rapping, and graffiti. Their name “Rivers Crew” was a mistake due to a printing issue because it was called “Reverse Crew” before. They later embraced the name “Rivers Crew,” symbolizing multiple rivers coming together to form a vast sea, representing their all-encompassing hip-hop style. Their slogan is “Flow Like Rivers”, which explains their fluid and dynamic approach to hip-hop.

They first gained widespread recognition through the television show “Invincible Dance”, which aired on iTV in 2000. Their popularity surged again in 2022 with their appearance on JTBC’s breaking survival entertainment program “Showdown”.

The members are also avid gamers. They can often be seen at ‘Our Arcade 2’ near Hansung University, a popular hangout for top gamers. Some of the members are also a part of the Mighty Zulu Kingz crew and take part in jersey activities and battles around North America.

In May 2024, the crew made headlines when IShowSpeed visited Korea and learned b-boying from Jay Park and Rivers Crew members at the MORE VISION headquarters.

Bboy C4 started breaking in middle school when he began copying the dance moves from the backup dancers on TV and from the older boys near his house who used to do bboying at that time. He joined Rivers Crew when he went to the Hyehwa Dong Maronie park near his home and saw the OG members Bboy Music and Bboy Nam SongHu of the crew performing, that’s where he talked with them and started to learn with them. Bboy Born first got into graffiti in 1997 after he saw an album cover of H.O.T (kpop band) and started doing graffiti with paint spray at home and around the neighbourhood. Then, he got into hip-hop at the age of 12 or 13 when one of his friends introduced him to Cypress Hill. He started to wear baggy pants and tried to understand the culture through hip-hop fashion and started to listen to Japanese hip-hop as well because his friend used to travel to Japan and would bring Japanese animation and music for him. He was also into animation before breaking at the time and wanted to be an animator after growing up. 

He discovered breaking in 1999 when he saw members of the Rivers Crew performing moves in a nearby park. Instantly inspired by the windmill, he decided to pursue breaking from that day forward after dropping out of high school. He started to practice with his friends and met NJP after a year at another practicing spot. At the time, NJP were rivals of the Rivers crew and he used to go to see them practicing. One day, a member ‘Bboy Gokuma’ invited him for a battle and he did some power moves because that’s all he knew at the time, so he taught him five-step of footwork and some basic top rock techniques. He finally joined NJP in 2000 as his first crew.

He joined Rivers crew when NJP members started to enlist in the military in 2004 with the stage name “Natural Born Dancer” and his name ‘Born’ was given to him by Bboy Bang Roc. Since he attended the same school as other crew members, joining the crew came naturally. Currently, he engages in graffiti art, abstract dimension painting, and traditional tattooing, and works as a DJ/Beat Maker in New York, USA.

Royyal Dog is a graffiti artist coming from Seoul, South Korea and started spray painting at the age of 16 before getting into college in Australia. He paints and creates murals of local people in the Korean traditional dress “Hanbok” around the world and is most renowned for his photorealistic murals featuring African-American women in traditional hanbok dresses and famous rappers. SHINOBI Facts:

Bboy SHINOBI started bboying in the second grade of his elementary school. He was deeply influenced by the comic “HipHop” which was famous at the time and so he joined the hip-hop club of his high school and started breaking from then on. He wasn’t very much into 6 steps but rather he wanted to do air tracks and headspins. He joined Rivers Crew after an audition around 2007-2008. The audition was for a practice space shared by two crews, and he was the only one from his team who made it through. Initially, he felt out of place and practised elsewhere.

Eventually, he was invited back by B-boy Physicx and joined Burn Squad, which later became independent. When Rivers’ manager asked if he wanted to stay, he agreed. Despite some initial misunderstandings, he started practicing with Rivers Crew again. His first win under the Rivers Crew name was at Bboy Challenge, and after winning at Chelles Battle Pro 2011, he was officially welcomed into Rivers Crew. The best part about being in the crew for him is when they all eat together.

LUXE Facts:

Bboy LUXE was born as the youngest member of a family of resistance fighters opposing the regime in Iran, and a former political refugee with Iranian and Russian heritage. He began his journey in graffiti art at the age of 10 and later started his journey in breaking under the name “Nasty Yass” but later changed it to “Luxe”. He moved to New York shortly before his 20th birthday to establish his style and become a vital part of the birthplace of Hip Hop culture. He continued to dance in the streets of New York, accompanied by big names in the industry and between the ages of 16 and 29, he accumulated the most prestigious battle record of his generation. 

He taught breakdance classes in New York and was appointed judge for prestigious battles in Harlem and the Bronx. During this time, he also spent hours rapping and confronting New York rappers in street cyphers. In 2016, he released a mixtape of 17 tracks, the luXemixtape, which was downloaded more than 15,000 times in 24 hours and has since reached 150,000 downloads.
