The Expression Crew is an 8-member breaking crew from South Korea which was founded in 1997. They won the Battle of the Year in 2002.

Expression Crew Facts:

In 1992, a team called Lee Woo-sung and Turntables was formed and went on to win three consecutive championships in the Kkurugi Contest, a segment of the early SBS entertainment program “Kkurugi Parade”. The crew Leader Woosung began his b-boying journey in 1994 and renamed the team Expression Crew in 1997, focusing on b-boying crew activities. 

In 2002, his crew became the first Asian team to win the Battle of the Year (BOTY), also known as the B-Boy World Cup. This victory was a significant achievement, demonstrating that a small country in East Asia could compete on a global stage. 

They are also credited with teaching b-boying to Kpop singer Jay Park when he first came to Korea and is considered the mother crew of many currently active b-boying crews, such as Busan Expression, key members of Drifterz Crew, FLOWXL Crew, One Way Crew, and Maximum Crew.

The crew is renowned worldwide for their Marionette performance created in 2005. The performance is set primarily to the music of French musician Yann Tiersen and features the crew wearing carnival-style masks. People criticized them first by calling them an amusement park performance team. However, they performed it at the Bboy Unit where the bboys appreciated them by giving them a round of applause.

Bboy Woosung started popping in 1990 and created a team called “Lee Woo-Sung and Turntables”, through which he won three championships. In 2023, he became the chairman of the Special Breaking Committee of the Korea Dance Sports Federation and the first director of the Dobong-gu Office Breaking Professional Team, the first professional breaking team in Korea. He was also the first bboy to use the halo and also became a judge on the breaking survival show “Showdown”.

Bboy Reflexjun joined the Expression crew after Jerry Kim of People Crew’s recommended him to Woosung. Woosung also became his role model after he saw him doing the halo at a club. He is a dancer, bboy, choreographer, and a music video director as well. Bboy Tachyon is the first generation member of the Expression Crew and a brother of crewmate Bboy Woosung. He started his dance journey from Woosung Lee and Turntables and later in 1995 started bboying. In the beginning, his dance style was focused on power moves and gradually it changed to style moves. In 2004, he became the champion of the France Battle Competition. He still does training to this day in his 40s, for two to three hours around three times a week.

Bboy Eagle One Facts:

Bboy Eagle One started dancing when he was 14 after one of his seniors did a ‘rainbow’ in front of him which immediately inspired him. He first joined the Obowang Crew which later became Extreme Crew but due to the extreme and hard practicing, he withdrew from the crew. Additionally, his name “Eagle One” came through when he left the Eagle Five crew where people used to refer to him as ‘the guy in Eagle Five”.

He joined the Expression Crew in 2003. He used to email them every day about the audition when he was in 2nd grade of middle school but never got a reply. When he moved to Seoul from Busan, the in charge of a talent scout from the Expression crew “Sang Tae” contacted him through a common friend and invited him to join them.

Bboy Sick joined the Expression Crew somewhere around 2002-2003, leaving it in 2005 and later joined Gamblerz Crew where he is currently active. In 2021, he passed the Judges exam of WDSF and became a coach of the national breaking team at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Moreover, he also is a professor at Sejong University and served as a director at the 2022 Asian Games. He was also one of the founding members of the Obowang crew and was invited as a judge at Red Bull BC One World Final 2022.

Bboy T Facts:

Bboy T joined the Expression Crew in 2002 when Bboy Woosung invited him after he went to one of their hosted parties and did a 3v3 battle with Bboy Rookie and Bboy Gonzo. He later on left it to join the Drifterz Crew.

He started dancing when he was in elementary school where he would dance to K-pop songs with his friends. He first saw breaking at the Shinchon subway station and was immediately amazed by the ‘Thomas Flare’ and ‘Windmill’ moves. His stage name “T” came through because he used to do a freeze in the shape of the alphabet “T”. Moreover, he doesn’t like freezes and hardly does them and prefers top rock, power moves, and up rock. 

Currently, he is not representing any crew and started a new genre “Double Dutch” where you jump ropes with two ropes and in between the two ropes, you can dance in almost every genre such as Bboy, HipHop, Rocking, Popping, House etc. His team is the only team in Korea doing double dutch along with Bboy Jerry.
