Bboy Roy was born in Woensel, Eindhoven. Dancing began for him because his family celebrated birthdays in a dancing way, and his parents often played Motown music at home. A friend named Virgil told him about a breakdancing class nearby. This is where he met Bboy Jessy and others from the Ruggeds. After joining an open practice session on Saturdays and getting to know everyone, he had to decide between playing soccer with a special team and focusing on breakdancing.
After just moving around as a toddler on get-togethers, he played Bust a Groove a lot on the PlayStation, and this led to his interest in dance. After meeting everyone in that open practice on Saturday, he had to choose between playing in the first selection of his soccer team or pushing break. He kind of broke his father’s heart with his choice, but it pushed him to really focus on his break and his creative outlet.
When he was young, it made perfect sense to add him to the crew after he became better and found his way of moving. His contribution to the crew lies in building bridges between people and ideas. He always finds solutions and connects the dots to create new concepts and movements that they use in our shows and videos. Besides creativity and sharpness, he kind of fulfils the role of the crew’s mom in a way, always prepared for any situation, reminding people not to forget stuff, and knowing what everyone would like or think of at any given time.
