The Ruggeds

The Ruggeds is a 9-member breaking group from The Netherlands which was founded in 2005. They have won the prestigious UK Bboy Championships in 2014.

The Ruggeds Crew Facts

The Ruggeds come from Eindhoven, a city in the southern part of the Netherlands. They have been recognized as World Champions. They also appeared in the music video ‘Where Are U Now’ by Justin Bieber and made an appearance on ‘NBC’s World Of Dance Season 2’. 

Over time, they have won more than 200 Breaking competitions and secured their first World Title in 2014 at the UK Bboy Championships. In 2015, they stepped into something new by debuting a shorter version of ‘Adrenaline’ at Breakin’ Convention in London. This marked their transition into a Breaking/Breakdance Company. They were then chosen to tour the USA, performing at renowned venues like the Apollo in New York. 

This theater production allowed them to explore new ways to express themselves. In 2019, they premiered ‘Between Us’, which was showcased throughout the Netherlands, including at ‘Lowlands’, a major festival. As they enter a new decade, they are taking time to reflect and set higher goals. Some of them are determined to win the first gold medal in Breaking at the 2024 Olympic Games, and they are already training for it.

1. Bboy Roy

Bboy Roy Facts

Bboy Roy was born in Woensel, Eindhoven. Dancing began for him because his family celebrated birthdays in a dancing way, and his parents often played motown music at home. A friend named Virgil told him about a breakdancing class nearby. This is where he met Bboy Jessy and others from The Ruggeds. After joining an open practice session on Saturdays and getting to know everyone, he had to decide between playing soccer with a special team and focusing on breakdancing. Choosing breakdancing was a bit tough on his dad, but it made him really concentrate on breakdancing and his creative expression.

2. Bboy Zoopreme

Bboy Zoopreme Facts

Bboy Zoopreme from The Ruggeds began his journey in breaking when he was 11 years old in 2003. He first saw this type of dancing on TV. His close friend from school, Morten Hector, taught him some dance moves. They both started taking breaking classes at a dance studio called Hotstepper in Denmark. His breaking name, “Zoopreme” was given to him by an old friend named Samir because he often wore a cap with the ‘Supreme’ brand during his teenage years. 3. Bboy Skychief

Bboy Skychief Facts

Bboy Skychief comes from the Netherlands and is a highly skilled performer with a lot of experience in dancing, theater, and movement. People call him ‘Skychief’ because he can do really impressive acrobatic moves where he seems to fly through the air. He is part of a global performance group and breaking crew ‘The Ruggeds.’

4. Bboy Jessy

Bboy Jessy Facts

Bboy Jessy was only 8 years old when he began bboying with his dad, Vince Kemper, as his teacher. Before The Ruggeds crew was formed in 2005, he was part of a small group with Bboy Skychief, Niek, and Roy. People call him Jazzy because of how well he moves to the music, and he’s also known as Gypz because of his heritage.

5. Bboy Niek Traa

Niek Traa Facts

Bboy Niek Traa hails from a village called Oirschot, situated close to Eindhoven. During his childhood, he had lots of energy and loved attempting somersaults on the trampoline in his backyard. When he discovered Breaking, it completely amazed him, and he became totally engrossed in it. Through Breaking, he developed a strong fondness for both music and art. Apart from being in The Ruggeds, he has also appeared in several movies including “Street Dance 2”.

6. Bboy Lee

Bboy Lee Facts

Bboy Lee began his journey in Breakdancing at the tender age of two, inspired by his mother who was a skilled B-Girl. He would imitate his mother’s dance moves and even accompanied her to various breaking competitions. Lee’s signature lies in his wide-ranging flexibility and his ability to move gracefully. He holds the belief that his style of breaking is one-of-a-kind and joined The Ruggeds in 2010. He’s gearing up for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France. 7. Bboy TawfiQ

Bboy TawfiQ Facts

Bboy TawfiQ embarked on his adventure in the world of Breakdancing at the age of 15. His initial exposure was witnessing the headspin move, and from that moment, he was captivated by the desire to master the dynamic power moves. As an esteemed member of the Ruggeds Crew, B-Boy TawfiQ’s journey has taken him across the world. Presently, he is in the midst of preparations for a special appearance at the 2024 Paris Olympics. 8. Bboy Duzk

Bboy Duzk Facts

Bboy Duzk had a strong grip on martial arts in his youth. Alongside his spirited nature, he had a keen affection for comics and cartoons, often engaging in mischievous escapades with his pals. His initiation into Breakdancing was influenced by the notion that it had no set rules. Before joining The Ruggeds, he was part of FDM alongside Bboy Niek. They would alternate between training sessions in Eindhoven and their own location in 2005. His contribution to dance style is marked by a raw and spontaneous essence.

9. Bboy Stepper

Bboy Stepper Facts

Bboy Stepper at the young age of 8, ventured into the realm of dance, beginning his journey with Breaking classes in his hometown of Laren. For an extended period, he was associated with The Militia crew. Eventually, a new chapter began when he and Bboy Jelmar founded their own crew, Strictly Business. The pivotal moment came when he became a member of The Ruggeds, opening doors to participate in some of the most esteemed dance battles worldwide. Brimming with youthfulness, determination, and natural talent, Sjoerd stands out as a dancer to watch closely. His trajectory in the world of dance holds promise and potential that’s hard to ignore.
