The Squadron

The Squadron is a 16-member breaking crew from California, USA, which was founded in 2006. They became the winner of the Warsaw Challenge in 2009.

The Squadron Facts:

The Squadron is based in Southern California, and its superstar lineup is made up of B-Boys from across the United States. Created in 2006, as a national team designed to represent the best in US breaking around the world, the crew had as its first members the legends Bboy “MexOne” Alvarado, Bboy RoxRite, and Bboy Squid Rock.

Bboy MexOne is the founder of Squadron Crew in terms of the name and bringing all members under one umbrella. He decided to build his own site, which would become “The B-Boy Spot” and the concept of the Squadron was a team or a group of people that would represent his website and basically be ready to go overseas and represent the U.S. in competitions.”

In 2017, they started connecting and staying in touch, and the following month, Bboy RoxRite and Bboy Kid David went to a battle in Florida, at Outbreak 3, and won the battle there. Once they got on, they started carrying the vibe of mutual respect and admiring one another’s approach. They started winning a lot of international battles, and by 2007, Bboy MexOne was the one who came up with the name “Squadron”.

They quickly made a name for themselves as the national force they aimed to be. From 2008 to 2010, they won eleven straight battles, building an early legacy that catapulted them into legendary territory. Earning a spot on the squadron became a badge of honour, and the crew was continually adding new members as they came up and proved their worth.

1. Bboy Phill

Bboy Phill Facts:

Bboy Phil has been a member of the Squadron Crew since 2018. He started his breaking journey after checking out his friends breaking at age 14. He got to work honing his skills, but his biggest challenge was how to actually ‘learn’ to move and experiment with different rhythms. Coming from parents who were both gymnasts, Philip fused the technical prowess of his Russian upbringing with a laid-back Cali groove.

2. Bboy RoxRite

Bboy RoxRite Facts:

Bboy Roxrite, at the tender age of 12, started dancing after being influenced by local boys. He has been a member of the Squadron Crew since 2007. He went to a battle in Florida with his crew at Outbreak 3 and won the battle there. Bboy Kid David Facts:

Bboy Kid David has been a member of The Squadron since 2007. He went to a battle in Florida with his crew at Outbreak 3 and won the battle there. He started breaking in 2000 after being inspired by the movie Breakin’. He soon took classes offered at a dance studio where his mother taught ballet. With a ballet and jazz dancer as a mom and a once-professional pianist as a dad, it was hard for David to deny this passion. Dedicated to the art, he left the classes and began practicing on his own. Bboy Nasty Ray has been representing the Squadron Crew since 2009. He started his breaking journey in 1998 and started pretty much just by collecting records. He always loved music as a kid, and his dad used to take me digging. He got old enough where he started making a little bit of money and would sometimes win a breaking competition, and he would literally use the money that he won to buy records. 11. Bboy Lean Rock

Bboy Lean Rock Facts:

Bboy DJ Lean Rock has represented the Squadron Crew since 2009. He started breaking in 1996, and he is one of the top boy DJs in the game. Lean Rock has been a b-boy for over 20 years and a DJ for 12.

He goes the extra mile to dig for rare funky b-beats as well as producing tracks for dancers, which have led him to gigs across the globe, not to mention top battles including the Red Bull BC One, Battle of the Year, IBE, Freestyle Session, Silverback Open, Hip Opsession, World Bboy Classic, Outbreak, and many more. Lean Rock carries on tradition to preserve both the b-boy and DJ elements of hip-hop culture as well as bring something new to the table.

Bboy El Niño Facts:

Bboy El Niño has represented the Squadron Crew since 2011. He has been breaking since the age of six. El Niño has performed with artists such as Missy Elliot, LL Cool J, 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, and many more. He appeared in the movie Step Up 3D and recently landed a main role in a national Airheads candy commercial. He is a staple in the boy community, judging events and teaching international workshops to youth. Bboy Victor has been representing the Squadron Crew since 2013 and went on a solo streak of wins that made him an integral and respected part of the crew. He has been breaking for 10 years now. What got him into breaking was his dad and his twin brother. They used to break back into Mexico when it first started. They taught him backspins, footwork, and the Beat Street movie; after that, he never stopped. His breaking style is explosive, energetic, smooth, and powerful. Bboy P-Nut Facts:

Bboy P-Nut was raised in the breaking culture as his dad was also a B-Boy, so he taught him early about the artform, music, and how to carry himself as a B-Boy. He never had to second-guess it either; he was born into it, so he knew from the jump that this was what he wanted to do. In 2017, he joined The Squadron Crew and getting down with Squadron was really dope too, because he grew up with a lot of the members and built with them, so they were already family even before he was officially put down.

17. Bboy MexOne

Bboy MexOne Facts:

Bboy MexOne was a member of the Unique Styles Crew from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He started the Outbreak hip-hop festival in 2003 and was the founder of the Biggest & Baddest clothing brand, launched in 2007, and The Bboy Spot, launched in 2008, an online forum and store at first and later a community centre with free practices to support the hip-hop scene in Orlando. In addition, he also founded The Squadron-Crew, one of the illest breaking crews in the world. Unfortunately, he passed away at the age of 35.
