Red Bull BC One World Final Champions Facts:
Red Bull BC One is an international breaking competition that began in 2004, originally focusing on solo competition among B-Boys. In 2018, a separate division for B-Girls was introduced. It is one of the most significant and respected events in the breaking community, held annually and judged by experienced breakers from around the world.
The competition is divided into three main stages:
- Red Bull BC One Country Cyphers
- Red Bull BC One Last Chance Cypher
- Red Bull BC One World Final
Country & Last Chance Cyphers
These are qualification events held in various countries throughout the year. Breakers must participate in the national Cypher of the country where they reside.
Some Cyphers are open to all breakers over the age of 16, while others invite only those with established reputations. The winners of each country’s Cypher advance to the Last Chance Cypher, which takes place just before the World Final. There, they compete in another knockout tournament for the remaining open spots in the World Final.
Red Bull BC One World Final
This is the main event where the world’s top 16 B-Boys and top 16 B-Girls compete in a 1v1 knockout tournament. The winners of each division are awarded the Red Bull BC One World Championship title.
There are two ways to qualify for the World Final:
- Invitation: Breakers who have demonstrated exceptional skills and consistently performed well in the breaking scene are invited directly into the top 16.
- Open Spots: Breakers can also secure a spot by winning their country’s Red Bull BC One Cypher and then triumphing in the Last Chance Cypher.
The World Final consists of a series of knockout rounds. It begins with 16 participants, narrowing down to 8 in the quarter-finals, 4 in the semi-finals, and finally 2 in the final battle. Each battle consists of three rounds (or more in the final), with the winner decided by a panel of five judges.

Bboy Mounir became the champion of the 9th edition of Red Bull BC One, representing Vagabonds.
His story began in 2007 when he participated in the first edition of the continental qualifiers for the Red Bull BC One competition at La Cigale in Paris. Despite a strong performance, he fell short in the final, just before the world final in South Africa. He was very disappointed. He thought it was a very good performance.
In 2008, Mounir received an invitation to the world finals, which took place in Paris. Being part of the line-up without going through the qualifications was a significant personal achievement for him. However, his journey was cut short again, this time in the quarter-finals against South Korean dancer Wing, who would go on to win the competition that year.
In 2011, he was once again invited to the world final, held in Moscow. He was eliminated in the first round. According to him, it was a huge disappointment for him and a real challenge. Between 2009 and 2011, he had remained undefeated in France in one-on-one battles, so he took a big slap in the face during this edition.
In 2012, he was not invited to the world final but had to go through the cyphers to reach the final. He felt invested and went on to win the French Cypher that year after having two injuries. After that, he also had a third injury and went on vacation to heal. When he came back, he was preparing to take part in the BOTY with his crew which he thinks fueled his preparation for the Red Bull BC One.
He became confident after he recovered from all his three injuries, won the BOTY, and won in France and Europe. He arrived in Brazil in a competitive mode and rather than touring the city, he indulged in training in his room which paid off as he won the championship.
In the first round, Bboy Mounir faced off against Bboy Domkey and won with 5 out of 5 votes from the judges. Advancing to the quarter-final, he battled Bboy Klesio and secured 4 out of 5 votes. He still thinks, he was not at his 100% of abilities at the world final and still had room for improvement despite winning the title.

The controversy stemmed from the introduction of a round-by-round judging system, similar to that used in the Undisputed competition. This format allowed B-Boys to see the judges’ decisions after each round. The battles were structured as best-of-three rounds (with the finals extending to five rounds), but they could end early if a B-Boy won two rounds outright.
